1st Executive Session: Re: accepted bid for the Amphitheater- A J Enterprises from Garland, Texas. Article from bizjournals in Jun 2023 re: Arturo and Arleen Macias

Transforming communities through real estate development

As an immigrant from Mexico, Arturo Macias faced numerous challenges when he arrived in the U.S. in 1994 at the age of 14 with only a middle school education. Growing up, he witnessed his mother’s entrepreneurial spirit as she owned a small convenience store while his father was an agricultural worker. Those influences instilled in him a strong work ethic and a drive to create opportunities for himself and others

His first venture was a small Mexican restaurant he opened at the age of 20 in North Dallas. He later owned a marble and granite industry business.

In 2009, Macias and his wife, Arleen, became part of a joint venture that opened Indoor Soccer Zone in Dallas. This marked the beginning of their journey into the world of commercial real estate by purchasing buildings to house entertainment centers. They would expand their portfolio by establishing Maxx Save Discount Store & Furniture in 2015. With multiple locations around the metroplex, the business provides retail options to the surrounding communities while also contributing to the revitalization of existing properties.

“Throughout the process of renovating and repurposing buildings, I became increasingly fascinated by the potential of commercial real estate to transform communities,” Macias said. “The ability to take a neglected property and turn it into a vibrant space that creates jobs and meaningful experiences for the community became a driving force behind my endeavors.”

This passion for revitalization led to the recent purchase of two former trade college buildings in Garland, a city that has “a sense of potential and diversity that appealed to us, making it an attractive place to live and establish our business.”

One of the properties, 13755 LBJ Freeway, is planned to open as a Regus Office Space. The other, 13509 LBJ Freeway, is planned to open as a diverse retail, restaurant and service concept amid Garland’s most trafficked retail nodes.

“Through these developments, we aim to breathe new life into these buildings, providing a place where families and friends can come together, create memories and contribute to the local economy,” Macias said. “Overall, my background as an immigrant, my experiences in various businesses and my fascination with commercial real estate have all played a significant role in inspiring me to create businesses that not only generate success but also have a positive impact on the community.”

Macias plans to purchase and redevelop more commercial properties in Garland and the metroplex. The keys to his success so far, he said, have been a strong vision and passion for commercial real estate, and a helpful collaboration with City leadership and staff members to ensure a smooth development process.

“We have a deep appreciation for the positive changes we can make by renovating neglected properties and creating vibrant spaces,” he said. “Working closely with supportive City officials has given us valuable guidance, resources and simplified procedures, making it easier to bring our projects to life. We highly recommend other entrepreneurs to explore commercial real estate opportunities and build relationships with the City. It’s a great way to make a positive impact on the community and achieve business growth.”
