Near the end of July 2024, Trump appealed the $454 million dollar civil fraud judgment.
Judge Arthur Engoron found that Trump, his company and top executives, including his sons Eric and Donald Trump Jr., deceived banks and insurers for years, inflating Trump’s wealth on financial statements in order to obtain favorable deal terms they wouldn’t have otherwise received.
Engoron concluded the Trumps and their company benefited to the tune of $354 million in “ill-gotten gains” through the scheme, and ruled they must pay the state that sum plus interest of about $100 million.

On July 15, 2024, Judge Cannon dismissed the federal criminal documents case against Trump on the grounds that the special prosecutor role was not legal. On July 17, Jack Smith filed notice that his office was appealing the dismissal to the 11th circuit Court of Appeals, so this case is not over. The appeal is is due on August 27, 2024. I’m guessing Jack Smith may ask to expedite the appeal.

First up, in the E Jean Carroll case where a jury convicted Trump of sexually abusing and defaming her (Judge said it was rape), and he was ordered to pay her $5 milliion, Trump has until August 14 to file his appeal brief; with oral arguments set for September 6 Carroll had filed a motion asking for an expedited appeal basically because Trump was trying to put it off.

This last is shortly before his sentencing date, Sept 18, in the New York criminal case where he became a convicted felon (34 counts, decided by a jury). Trump tried again to get the gag order lifted in that case (because you know, he loves threatening people) and his appeal was rejected. (Here’s the PDF of that decision) The big question here is, can he really say that paying hush money to pay off a porn star by falsifying business records was an *official act*?
I don’t actually know what is going on with the Georgia Rico case. Trump appealed the decision to leave Fani Willis on the case. Ruling not expected this year. Incidentally, Mark Meadows wants SCOTUS to intervene for HIM (trying to get case moved to federal court) Remember, this is the case where, among other things, Trump asked Georgia’s top election official to find him more votes. In fact, weirdly, Trump brought this fact up in the rally he held today in Georgia. WHO DOES THAT?????
P.S. I have always found it strange that Republicans, that want to say they are the party of law and order, want to have a felon on the ticket. Sheesh.
