Trump was very unhappy when Joe Biden stepped out of the race for president and Kamala Harris stepped in. (Not me, I was thrilled and continue to be and applaud Biden for doing this). The Democratic patty is a private organization that gets to decide, in the primary season, how they want to conduct their elections. Keep in mind that these are primaries, not the general election. I remember the lawsuit that some supporters of Bernie Sanders lodged against the DNC. CASE

Locally, I heard of something interesting that, although not quite the same thing, also falls into the category of a candidate that believes he or she has the election sewed up, even though the final general election has not been held. In Somervell County, there were 2 people who were running under Republican party auspices for the same precinct. There was no corresponding person running in the Democratic primary for that precinct. Had there been, the winner of the Republican party primary would have faced the winner of the Democratic party primary in the general election in November. Since there was no Democratic party candidate (and of course then no winner), ostensibly the Republican primary winner would cruise into being the winner in the general election.

BUT what happened is there is someone, who is a Republican, who decided to pay money to the State of Texas to get on the ballot as a write in candidate. All perfectly legal, but I’m sure that came as a surprise to the Republican primary winner. I asked Christy how that worked, from a procedural standpoint on the electronic ballot machines. There is a list of write in candidates that are available during voting and clicking an option to say write in brings up a keypad so that the name can be typed in.

Now, I personally think it’s a tough row to hoe to get a winner of a write in candidate versus the primary winner. That person would have to do a campaign for the next couple of months to get people to vote for him instead of the other person (that other person ostensibly has the support of the Republican party and if not, it would be a low blow to see that type of non-support). Again, perfectly legal.

I don’t know the reasons behind this but have heard a rumour that seeks to explain. One of that the current commissioners do not want the primary winner and worked to get the write in candidate to run as an alternative. I have seen no proof of this, at least insofar as what I would call a cabal of commissioners that conspired together to get the write in guy on the ballot. The related idea with this is that the Good Old Boys do not want a potential commissioner that might shake things up, instead of reinforcing the status quo.

Regardless of the reasons for this, (and I don’t vote for the Republican party in any case, I can’t bring myself to do it for a party that puts a rapist, fraudster and convicted felon at the top of the ticket), again, it is legal and it will be interesting to watch.
