What a great day. Despite the Republicans lying about somehow people doing a No Kings event that they were, hahah, terrorist, or Hamas, or members of some ambiguous group called “Antifa”, you can look at this picture I look and judge for yourself whether these are democracy loving citizens of the US who want to, gasp, exercise their first amendment rights to protest or IF THE REPUBLICANS ARE LYING (Hint: Republican party thugs are lying, and that includes Greg Abbott who wanted to make it appear these would be violent events.). I’m taking the pic and might be missing some people who are on the other side of the corner. Incidentally, Somervell is the 2nd smallest county in Texas.

I had come to town earlier in the morning and went by myself to the Highway at the public sidewalk by the post office and held a sign. I was there for a couple of hours and then went downtown Glen Rose where there was a sizeable crowd at the corner of 144 and Barnard. It was great to see this turnout, shows that there are people who are concerned about the flouting of democracy by this president.
Incidentally, there were a lot of local people and/or people passing through Glen Rose that showed suppport. Several people when I was up on the highway took the time to tell me how they felt, people who believe that Trump is dragging down the country and not following the law. One Vietnam veteran told me that he considered Trump a draft dodger and disrespectful to the military. While there, quite a few people honked or gave me the thumbs up, AND the same thing happened with the residents who were down at the corner of 144 and Barnard. In fact, heh, some honkers were QUITE enthusiastic.
One more thing I personally feel about the value of getting out and letting people know what you think, in terms of holding signs, marching, etc, essentially, WHERE YOU LIVE. I did consider going to Fort Worth or Austin to join one of the larger rallies. We had been out the night before and I knew it would take 3 hours to drive to Austin and the Amtrak train (which I do love to take) only goes once a day. More than that, though, I believe that a lot of people don’t pay attention to rallies that are not being held in their own location (media that is right-wing may not show it) and that’s it’s OTHER people that are doing it. One time a few months ago a guy who was downtown sitting on a bench came over to me, standing with a sign in front of the courthouse and said something that made me think he believed that I was from out of town and was paid, hah, to be there. I asked him point blank if that’s what he thought. He said yes and I said, no, I LIVE HERE and have done so for over 25 years. I don’t know where he got the goofy idea that people who exercise their constitutional 1st amendment rights are being paid to do it, probably the Republican party and propaganda sites. But I like it when people coming through our county SEE that everyone is not lockstep agreeing about a corrupt tyrant. It also makes, in my opinion, people feel good when they see that there are like minded people in their own location.
I don’t know yet what the turnout stats will be nationwide (Update: Largest protest ever, over 7 million people, but here are some signs from elsewhere I loved.

No Kings Rally Palestine, Texas, October 18, 2025. We have over 100 people here. At the last Kings rally we had less than 20. Trump has made a believer out of a lot of people. He means what he said, and none of it was good.
