So… Mike Johnson has shut down the House in and refused to swear in a duly elected Rep from Arizona, all in service to prevent a vote on the Epstein files. Everybody knows it, but it’s astonishing that corrupt Republicans would go this far to try to protect a disgusting man who is not only characterless but lawless

Since the government is shut down, at least the House part, people who would normally get food stamp (SNAP) federal benefits were threatened by Trump that they would not get them, appearing to try to leverage the Democrats into stopping giving Americans health insurance benefits. Incidentally, blame Brooke Rollins of Glen Rose for her part in all this too

Nutrition assistance is NOT corrupt. Food stamps kept my family fed when my mom had to look for work after my dad got sick with MS. The Trump administration wants kids, seniors, and veterans to go hungry. They are REFUSING to use emergency funds to keep SNAP benefits going.

We got another ACA vs Obamacare situation where a lot of poor white conservatives think SNAP is what they get but food stamps is what black people get lol. So they against the latter but not the former not knowing they are the same thing. They just now finding out lol.

For some weird reason some Americans think this will only affect black or brown people. I guess they watch propaganda like Fox News. Here’s one white lady griping about not having SNAP.

Blue states are suing to get those funds released. Trump would rather see poor kids starve while he builds his ballroom.

However, there was a contingency fund that said that Americans could continue to get SNAP benefits even during a shutdown and there had been an emergency fund created for that.

Republicans in the Senate voted against giving Americans these emergency funds.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican leaders in Congress said it’s all or nothing on Wednesday as they rejected a Democratic push to carve out food aid funding for more than 40 million Americans who stand to lose it as part of the government shutdown.

Democrats have repeatedly voted against reopening the government as they demand that Republicans negotiate with them to extend expiring health care subsidies. But they pushed for expedited approval of legislation to continue funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, in the meantime.

“It’s simple, it’s moral, it’s urgent,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said as he called for passage of the SNAP funding Wednesday.

Republicans apparently did not care that people would possibly starve, including children. So, Democratic-led states filed a lawsuit to block the Trump administration from suspending SNAP benefits during the Government shutdown (this is a Republican led shutdown) Let me repeat this, that the lawsuit was NOT joined by ANY Republican led states.

22 blue states sued and won and SNAP will have to be funded. However, remember SCOTUS ruled against nationwide injunctions in CASA decision. The red states may not get SNAP funding.

Just so we’re clear… SNAP isn’t saved yet. A judge gave the USDA until Monday to decide how or if benefits go out. They could be delayed, reduced, or partial. Nothing’s guaranteed. Even if payments restart, states still have to reload cards and update systems, so delays are certain.

Court rulings went in the Democratic led states favor.

In Providence, Rhode Island, U.S. District Judge John J. McConnell ruled from the bench in a case filed by cities and nonprofits that the program must be funded using at least the contingency funds. He asked for an update on progress by Monday.

Along with ordering the federal government to use emergency reserves to backfill SNAP benefits, McConnell ruled that all previous work requirement waivers must continue to be honored. The USDA during the shutdown has terminated existing waivers that exempted work requirements for older adults, veterans and others.

There were similar elements in the Boston case, where U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani ruled in a written opinion that the USDA has to pay for SNAP, calling the suspension “unlawful.” She ordered the federal government to advise the court by Monday as to whether they will use the emergency reserve funds to provide reduced SNAP benefits for November or fully fund the program “using both contingency funds and additional available funds.

“Defendants’ suspension of SNAP payments was based on the erroneous conclusion that the Contingency Funds could not be used to ensure continuation of SNAP payments,” she wrote. “This court has now clarified that Defendants are required to use those Contingency Funds as necessary for the SNAP program.”

Meanwhile, what’s Trump doing? Having a Great Gatsby style Halloween party at Mar-A-Lago while changing the Lincoln bedroom bathroom to put a chandelier over the toilet.

Not clear if and when Trump will fund SNAP with the $ appropriated FOR FUNDING SNAP. What is clear: While SNAP funds are halted, Trump is throwing a lavish Halloween party and bragging about his redecorated bathroom. He could have averted the crisis with no lawsuit. apnews.com/article/snap…

It's clear nobody at that party – especially Trump – ever actually *read* The Great Gatsby. Gatsby, i.e. the former gangster who lies about his past and ends up dead and nobody goes to his funeral because he had no real friends and everyone was just using him.

“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”

― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Unlike Gatsby, Trump has generated immense revulsion and anger. The world will celebrate his downfall, when God finally drags him kicking and screaming into hell.
