I remember how astonished I was when I saw that the Promise Group, which at the time had passion plays for Jesus held at the Texas Amphitheater in Somervell County, had put, of all people, Jonathan Stickland as the board president of their group. Remember that Jonathan Stickland is known, among other things, for this association with white supremacists including Nick Fuentes. And yet, the Promise, a supposed religious organization, welcomed him. The Promise had a lease agreement with Somervell County which govt was, at the time in 2024, pursuing action to sell the Amphitheater. The Promise group, which also included Brad Gray, wanted to buy the Amphitheater on the cheap, which was, to me, with an insultingly low bid. Ultimately, another group from Dallas bought not only the Texas Amphitheater but also the Expo Center, and frankly, except for noticing that for some gawdawful reason they initially hired in Cindy Gray as manager, I haven’t kept up with their now-private ownership of both venues.

Nick Fuentes and Nazis have been in the news lately, and given that there is so much apologia from the Republican Party to excuse Nazi-ism, I got to wondering what happened to the Promise.. Turns out that the passion play is no longer (of course) in Glen Rose but being performed at the same church, Willow Park Baptist Church, that Brad Gray attends or at least has in the past. I notice that they have not taken the easy step to change the domain name nor the email name and take OUT “Glen Rose” but you know, that would take work. But don’t worry you can still buy merch.
