On May 9th, 2025, when in the public Somervell County Annex, upon the direction of Judge Danny Chambers and County Attorney Trey Brown, a cop came down the hallway to the office of the Somervell County Commissioners Admin and instructed me to leave the building, that I was being criminally trespassed, with a warning. I was told at that point that it was not necessarily because of anything I was doing that day but at any time in the past. Because it was a criminal trespass *warning* and not a charge, I was told I could not take it to court to contest it. I was also told that I could go personally to speak to Trey Brown, and, as one person told me, discuss with him where I could have permission to go in the public building. Pretty clear to me that Brown didn’t have a leg to stand on, so there was no way I was going to go ask this yokel what I could do when he made up laws, and was acting, to me, petty when challenged on why he could point to no infraction law with penalties.
I had some questions and I figured an open records request would possibly answer them. Keep in mind that an open records request is not a conversation with a govt official to determine particulars about anything and it is against Public Information Law for the govt requested to ask the requestee why they want the records. I believe it’s pretty clear from reading this site why I have many issues with a reckless government, but that does not excuse Trey Brown, who is a blabber, from simply following the law and sending records, yes or no.
He replied, basically, beyond the bloviating that breached the Texas Public Information Act, that no records existed for any of the items I asked for. Period, the rest of this reply is just his reckless desire to talk, bypassing his own self-control and suggest courses of action for me that I did not ask him for, nor would.(Not just because this violates the Public Information Act and I did not ask him but it is NONE OF HIS BUSINESS-what a nosy parker! Does not matter a whit if he thought he knew because I write about his lawless actions here)
Going through these one by one.
- Somervell County, and neither Judge Chambers nor County Attorney Trey Brown, did not tell me when I went into the Annex on May 9th 2025 that I was going to be accused of trespassing in a public building.The cop who gave me the CT warning said it could have been for sometime in the past but could not cite a specific day or infraction, and I was told they saw me through the camera. What, were they waiting around for me someday to enter so they could jump on a horse and come after me? I had not been in the annex for months, last in 2024.
- The signs that are in the hall of public that talk about no recording etc do not cite a law nor a penalty. Trey Brown made it up. Could I just make a sign that says “Do not comb your hair in this office’.
- There is no sign outside any office that indicates that the offices are *private* as opposed to being public offices. Trey Brown made it up and the cop put it on my warning AS IF it were true without seeing if it was.
- There is no written policy about the camera recordings in the Annex offices, including the hallway to notify the public that they are being recorded. Not only hypocritical but shouldn’t they tell citizens??
- There is no written policy that indicates, if one is given a criminal trespass warning, when it would expire and how the person getting the warning would know. Not only did I not violate any law but what kind of law doesn’t have an expiration date and why in the heck isn’t there a policy about it if his office and the judges are going to charge people? So ambiguous and yet Brown at that point told me to get an attorney. Blarg, how dumb and also out of line because again, I did NOT ask him anything like that.
Why does any of this matter? Because Trey Brown just made up a law via a homemade sign that he put in the hallway that cites no law, is at odd with current law, is something that just up and came up with, and there is no penalty listed IF one should violate his little sign. Brown also had his police come to tell me that the commissioners offices were private yet not only do the commissioners not agree with this (or ever voted on this), but there is no sign on the offices to say “Private”. How can someone pass out, like candy, violation warnings for something that does not exist? Seems also pretty hypocritical in a one party recording state that Somervell County has no policy and makes no effort to let people who come into the annex, say, for court, or to the clerk or commissioners office, etc) know that they are being recorded. And finally, I was given a criminal trespass warning for being in a public government building but because it was a warning, I was told it would not be something I would have to show up in court for-BUT nothing on the warning indicated when it expires, not on the ticket. I mean, without that, how in the heck would I know if these yahoos who had done this without me breaking any law if they were going to ride off half-cocked to go after me again?
Shame on Danny Chambers and Trey Brown, who are actually bungling amateurs that do not even make an attempt to ascertain facts, check if laws exist or decide, as Brown did, that he would make up a law without there actually BEING ONE and then try to use what looked like a petty revenge tactic, in my opinion, because I questioned him about this and he apparently did not like feeling that his authority, such as it is, challenged.
Somervell County can do better.
