Before even talking about this much, there are a LOT of people who do not agree with Trump that it is okay to aggressively invade other countries, threaten them, try to bully them into surrendering territory etc. I was raised with the idea of a “just war”, ie, one in which the country you live is is being actively threatened and you need to defend it and yourself. That’s one big reason why the Iraq War was so unpopular, because Iraq was not even the perpetrator of 9/11 but rather Saudi Arabia. It’s interesting to me that the US, under Trump and Hegseth is trying to frame attacking Iran as some kind of “holy war” .
Most scholars agree that, to be considered just, a war must meet several jus ad bellum requirements. The four most important conditions are: (1) the war must be declared openly by a proper sovereign authority (e.g., the governing authority of the political community in question); (2) the war must have a just cause (e.g., defense of the common good or a response to grave injustice); (3) the warring state must have just intentions (i.e., it must wage the war for justice rather than for self-interest); and (4) the aim of the war must be the establishment of a just peace. Since the end of World War II it has become customary to add three other conditions: (1) there must be a reasonable chance of success; (2) force must be used as a last resort; and (3) the expected benefits of war must outweigh its anticipated costs.

AND his go-to setting when that happens is to attack the person for what they said, and try to bully or threaten them.

The Pope, whose religion represents 1.14 billion people, spoke out about war over the weekend and called it immoral. Trump, “I don’t want a pope who criticizes the president of the United States”. Well, guess what, the Pope can and can talk about the war bing immoral all the wants. Incidentally, the Pope is an American.
