Here, from KSAT is video from the event

San Antonio Express

In an effort to bolster local businesses and create a little Christmas fun, a group of local residents came together to create San Antonio’s first Krampus Parade. Krampus is part of Central European folklore about a demon who drags naughty children to hell before St. Nicholas arrives to deliver presents to the remaining children – a storied fable meant to keep children well behaved.

KrampusLauf (or Krampus Walks) are as synonymous to the season as Christkindlesmarkts are throughout Germany and Austria.  Here’s video from one Krampus parage from Austria this year

Krampus being given the list of naughty children by Santa

Mythological Santa, who is just as unreal as Krampus, although Santa is based on a real figure in history, Saint Nicholas, also has story elements like “He knows if you’ve been bad or good” or he leaves a lump of coal in naughty children’s stockings. Plus there’s the idea of, like a god, Santa watching children all the time (knows if you are sleeping, knows if you are awake) and putting a naughty child on a list.

A local San Antonio pastor doesn’t like a Krampus parade and tried to get the City of San Antonio to block the parade. What’s kind of hilarious is the justification he tries to use

Must be kidding. Against a mythical figure celebrated in Europe, probably not as well known in the US. But this pastor, pretending that “We cannot allow our children to be subjected to such fear-mongering”, completely ignores that the bible is full of it, including god murdering children and admonitions in various versus to kill children who, essentially “misbehave”. Is that fear-mongering too? Who can[t be in agreement about raising children in an “environment of hope, safety and encouragement” but that is at cross purposes with anyone who wants to preach those values while using the bible that does embrace “dark fear based folklore”. It is sad when you see any pastor that apparently does not read the bible.

So let’s just see what the Bible, which is full of fear-based folklore, has to say about fear-mongering and protection of children and hell. Remember Krampus is about *naughty* children.

Deuteronomy 21:18-21

“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Proverbs 23:13-14

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.

Leviticus 20:9

For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.

Proverbs 30:17

The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.

Isaiah 13:16

Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.

2 Kings 2:23-24

He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.

Numbers 31:17-18

Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves.

Mark 9:43-48

And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’

Revelation 20:11-15

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

James 3:6

And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.

Of interest is this book from the mid-1800’s written for children, called “The Sight of Hell” Looks like torture porn but the guy who wrote it wanted children to know they would go to hell

Ps. XX. — ** J’hou shalt make him as an oven of fire in the time of Thy anger.^^ You are going to see again the child about which you read in the Terrible Judgment^ that it was condemned to Hell. See ! it is a pitiful sight. The little child is in this red-hot oven. Hear how it screams to come out. See how it turns and twists itself about in the fire. It beats its head against the roof of the oven. It stamps its little feet on the floor of the oven. You can see on the face of this little child what you see on the faces of all in Hell — despair, desperate and horrible !

The same law which is for others is also for children. If children, knowingly and willingly, break God’s commandments, they also must be punished like others. This child committed very bad mortal sins, knowing well the harm of what it was doing, and knowing that Hell would be the punishment. God was very good to this child. Very likely God saw that this child would get worse and worse, and would never repent, and so it would have to be punished much more in Hell. So God in His mercy called it out of the world in its early childhood.

Now, this last part is not the bible, but someone who purported to speak for god, made up baloney about what hell was like (kind of like a Chick tract)

Anyway, want to know about Sheol? Look up “helling potatoes”.
