Elon Musk’s DOGE team barred from accessing Social Security data by federal judge
A federal judge temporarily blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Social Security Administration systems containing personal data on millions of Americans.
U.S. District Judge Ellen Hollander of Maryland issued the ruling Thursday, also ordering DOGE to delete any personally identifiable information it may have obtained. The decision follows an emergency request from labor unions and retirees concerned about privacy violations and security risks.
Critics argue that DOGE’s “nearly unlimited” access breaches privacy laws and poses massive cybersecurity threats. A former Social Security official who witnessed DOGE’s rapid entry into the agency expressed deep concern about sensitive data being exposed.
